Well, think of the musical like a Disney movie version of the book? That's the impression I got anyway. The play was very accessible to all ages and had a lot of extra humorous references to the Wizard of Oz that I don't think would have been in the book. I could tell that the material in some cases was supposed to be "dark", but was presented in a light-ish manner.

IDK. The songs sucked me in. I love them.
